Try sailing on Canberra’s lakes for free!

Sunday 2 November 2008 – 10am to 4pm

For everyone who has ever thought they might like to try sailing a boat, Sunday 2 November 2008 will be the day to find out.

It will be Try Sailing Day at all Canberra’s sailing clubs with free opportunities to experience the fun of sailing on Canberra’s lakes.

This will be the first time all ACT clubs have combined to jointly promote sailing as sport and recreation for all ages. The event is organised by Yachting ACT (YACT), the sport’s local governing body, and supported by the Boating Industry Association of NSW and the Sailing Industry Association of NSW.

It’s an ideal way for non-sailors to discover the wide range of sailing activities in Canberra and the types of craft that can suit most budgets and interests.” They can find out about the learn-to-sail courses and other training available and see at first hand how these friendly, family-oriented clubs operate”. Each club will be making a range of its sailing craft available for people to take joy rides to see how they like the idea of sailing. Skilled club members will ‘show them the ropes’. The boats will range from small dinghies suitable for youngsters and special types for people with disabilities, to the larger trailable yachts.

Just turn up, wear comfortable clothing and use sunscreen. Buoyancy vests will be provided as required.”
